New HSBC Expat Freedom Plus investor?

If you are an HSBC Expat customer, and registered for HSBC Expat online banking, it is quick and easy to apply online in just a few clicks

Simply Log on to online banking to apply.

You will also need to sign up for our Freedom plus service. This will be opened for you at the same time we set up your new Investment.

Existing HSBC Expat Freedom Plus investor?

If you are an existing HSBC Expat investor with Freedom Plus, and want to add to your existing investments, switch or sell, you can do this conveniently online through HSBC Expat online banking.

Simply log on to online banking, and select your investment account from your investment summary list. Then, select the Buy, Sell or Switch* button options and complete your application.

*Please remember when switching that the on-going charges for the new fund(s) could be higher than for your existing fund(s). Also these transactions can take up to 5 working days, so you should be aware that you may be out of the market for this period of time.

The HSBC Global Investment Funds are not available to residents of Afghanistan, Australia, Burundi, Canada, Chad, Cuba, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Taiwan, Tajikistan, and the United States of America as well as nationals of the United States of America.

Please remember that the value of investments, and any income received from them can fall as well as rise, is not guaranteed and you may not get back the amount you invested. This could also happen as a result of changes in currency exchange rates, particularly where overseas securities are held or where investments are converted from one currency to another. We always recommend that any Investments held should be viewed as a medium to long-term investment, at least five years.

You should carefully consider the special risks of investing in emerging market securities. These economics also have been, and may continue to be, affected adversely by economic conditions in the countries in which they trade.

Economies in emerging markets generally are heavily dependent upon international trade and, accordingly, have been and may continue to be affected adversely by trade barriers, exchange controls, managed adjustments in relative currency values and other protectionist measures imposed or negotiated by the countries with which they trade.

Freedom Plus

Buy, sell, switch* and track your investments from a single place.

One of the key benefits of investing with us, is that your investment funds are held through our nominee service �Freedom Plus�. The investment platform allows you to buy, sell, switch and track investments from the HSBC World Selection and HSBC Global Investment Funds ranges.

If you don't have Freedom Plus, you need to set this up before you invest in any of these funds. You do it as part of the application process - so it's simple to do.

Having Freedom Plus also makes it quicker and easier to manage your investments over time.

With Freedom Plus you can:

  • enjoy the potential benefits of an offshore investment
  • quickly and easily apply for additional investments within the Freedom Plus range
  • buy, sell and switch* your investments in each of the Freedom Plus funds

Things you should know?

Am I eligible to apply online?

  • You need to be an HSBC Expat customer
  • You need to be registered for HSBC Expat online banking
  • You are a sole investor
  • You must be aged 18 or over and meet our minimum investment criteria.

Lump sum investments - The minimum**;

  • investment is £/US$/€10,000
  • subsequent additional investment is £/US$/€2,000
  • amount invested in any one sub-fund is £/US$/€2,000.

Monthly investment plans - The minimum*;

  • monthly investment is £/US$/€250,
  • amount invested in any one sub-fund is £/US$/€100.

**We can not open funds for nationals or residents of a limited number of countries and in some countries***, the minimum balances stated above and in the application form, may be higher.

Please note, we need documentary evidence relating to the source of the funds for all investments of £250,000 or more (or the currency equivalent).

  • Non-HSBC Expat customers - 3% initial charge
