UK Deposit Protection Scheme

Deposits and investments made with our office in Jersey are not protected by the rules made under the UK's Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, including the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, and the UK's Financial Ombudsman Service.

Using your credit card in the EU

Under the EU Payment Services Directive, as an HSBC Expat customer you'll have the following rights when using your credit card in the EU:

  • credit card cash withdrawals in Euros outside your bank's ATM network should cost you the same in any EU member state
  • you should have access to secure electronic payments, using a combination of strong customer authentication measures (eg a PIN and your fingerprint)

Your cancellation rights

Bank Accounts

If you change your mind and close the account within 14 days of opening it, we will not charge a fee.

Fixed Term Deposit Accounts

Once money is deposited for a fixed period, there is no cancellation period and it is not possible to make partial withdrawals.

Life Insurance and Pension Contracts

With your contract note, we will send you a notice of your right to cancel. If you wish to cancel, you may do so by returning the completed notice within 30 days of receiving it.

Mortgages and Credit

The range of credit cards and mortgages detailed in this site are provided HSBC Bank plc in the UK. Mortgages are also available from HSBC Expat, where applicable. Credit facilities are subject to status and mortgages are subject to security. For mortgages or other secured loans, a charge will be taken over the property. How long we'll keep your information
