You can use your contactless card to make payments of up to USD 140 wherever you see the contactless symbol. However you can’t use contactless to get cash back or to take cash out of an ATM.

Contactless only works when a card is close to the card reader. This makes it virtually impossible for your details to be intercepted when you make a payment. Each card reader also contains security technology based on industry-wide standards.

As contactless card readers can only make one transaction at a time, you can be sure that payments will only be taken once from your account. You also can’t make a contactless payment just by walking past a reader. The retailer must have entered the amount for you to approve first, and then you have to hold your card within a couple of centimetres of the terminal for longer than half a second.

For security, USD 140 is the maximum amount allowed for a single transaction and, from time to time, you’ll be asked to enter your PIN to verify you are the genuine cardholder. You’ll also be asked for your PIN if you try to make several contactless payments in a row.

If your card is lost or stolen, you're protected against fraud loss providing you take the kind of precautions we recommend and let us know as soon as you realise it's gone.

It's always a good idea to take your contactless card out of your wallet to touch the reader - this will make sure the right card is debited. If you have multiple cards in your wallet or purse, the card read by the reader and the account charged may not necessarily be the one you intended.

The reader will only read one card. If you place two cards on the reader, it will show a red light to tell you that the payment has not completed.

If anyone has fraudulently used your contactless card to make a transaction, as long as you have kept your details safe, you will not be responsible for any losses incurred.
