Things to know

How your accumulated amount is calculated

The accumulated amount is the GBP value of your FX transactions in the accumulation period. This includes the GBP values of the FX transaction you’re currently making and any currency exchange transaction you’ve made on the current day and in the past 180 days.

The accumulated amount is based on the total amount accumulated across the HSBC Expat Mobile Banking app and HSBC Online Banking.

The following FX transactions are included:

  • FX transactions between your HSBC Expat accounts
  • FX transactions from your HSBC Expat account to someone else's HSBC Expat account
  • Inward remittance
  • Global Money
  • Global Money Transfer

Global Transfer and International FX transfer through online banking are not included.

Other services and channels, for example, FX Order Watch and FX transactions via your Relationship Manager or our staff are excluded unless specified.

The default base tier

The default base tier is Green. As your accumulated amount increases, you'll be eligible for higher discounts according to the tier you qualify for.

For example, if the value of your FX transaction amount, including the current one being completed, totals GBP4,000, your tier status will be upgraded from Green to Bronze. A 5% spread discount will be applied on the exchange rate for the current transaction. If the exchange rate for exchanging GBP to EUR is 1.12698 the rate would improve to 1.12804 with the Bronze discount of 5%. After that, if your new accumulated amount equals or is more than GBP60,000, your tier will be upgraded to Silver with a spread discount of 10%.

These exchanges rates are for illustration purposes only. Please refer to the Terms and Condition (PDF) and FAQs for more details.
